Armstrong

We have stepped off
ladders ourselves,
descended
to our own path.

Only you
have touched
untrod ground,
its powder

Holding your impression
like a handprint
on a cave wall,
indelible in our minds.

We all know
the parallel lines
of the sole,
shadowed and sunlit

Stripes imprinted
in fine gray dust,
impressed upon
each of us, thinking

About you
taking your small step,
unsurpassed
by subsequent strides.
